About the PDF to Images Tool

Sometimes you need PDF content in image form — for embedding in a presentation, posting on social media, previewing a document without a PDF reader, or extracting a diagram. ChopFile converts each page of your PDF into a PNG or JPEG image, entirely in your browser.

Common use cases

PNG vs JPEG

PNG produces lossless images that preserve text sharpness and fine detail — the best choice for documents, spreadsheets, and anything with text. JPEG produces smaller files but uses lossy compression, making it better suited for photographic pages where file size matters more than pixel-perfect text. For most PDF pages, PNG is the recommended format.

How it works

ChopFile uses PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering engine, to draw each PDF page onto an HTML canvas element at high resolution. The canvas is then exported as a PNG or JPEG image. Everything runs locally — your PDF is never uploaded.
